How Do I Build My Website?

To get started building your website, you need to ensure that you have the email Hostgator or your web hosting company sent you.

If you registered your domain name and purchased your web hosting with Hostgator you're one step ahead as you do not need to change your Name Servers.

If not you need to refer to the email your web hosting company sent you and look for the Name Servers section and copy the 2 Name Server entries and go to Manage Domain Names in your Domain Name account and paste in the Name Server entries.

It should register within 10-15 minutes.

But it can take up to 24-48 hours.

The next step is to once more, refer to your email from your web hosting company, and look for Cpanel login details.

Now copy and paste the cPanel address into your browser and copy and paste the login information into the login form.

Next, you will need to set up an email address for your domain for the Wordpress One Click Install.

Go to the eMail icon click on it and input a name for your email, like admin@yourdomain.com and type in a password.

If you are unsure of how to create a strong password, Google, password generators and generate a strong password that way.

You may want to use your computer's email client to read your website's email, click the option, and copy or print the information to input into your computer's email client.

Next, look for One Click Set Up or Softalicious App Installer and you'll want to install Wordpress. Make sure that you don't install Wordpress within a directory in your website, which means that the part of the form that displays your domain name, you need to leave it blank.

If you do install it to a directory not only will you have a hard time finding it no one else will be able to find it either?

Input your email address, an admin name or leave it as admin, and a password, and you're done.

Click the Install Wordpress button.

Now go to http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin, and input your admin name or just admin and your password.

You should be able to log into Wordpress.

The next step is to head over to Themeforest to choose a Wordpress theme so that you can start building your website.

Remember, if you choose a theme with a slider (image slide) all your images must all fit the sliders dimensions and may require extra work with a graphics program.

Themes on Themeforest range from US$10-US$60 and will give your website a professional appearance.

Download the zip file to your computer and then log into your website and go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > and choose the zip file > Upload.

Once it has uploaded you need to go to Appearance > Themes > find the name of your theme > Activate.

Once your theme has been activated it's just a matter of finding the name of the theme in your Wordpress menu and then clicking the form in the sidebar and inputting your website's information to create your website.

You may decide you want to start an email newsletter and collect email addresses.

For this, you will need a contact form.

A plugin such as Optimize Press or you may choose to sign up to an email marketing company like Getresponse.com and place a contact form on your website.

Both companies have detailed help and support sections to assist you with these options.

How Do I Get Started And Register a Domain Name?

The first thing to do when you are thinking of creating a self-hosted blog or website is to register a domain name.

Many affiliate tutors suggest using a keyword search tool such as Google's Keyword Planner to search for a word or phrase related to your niche to get keyword ideas and choose one to register as your domain name.

Many of the keyword ideas being presented will already have been registered but you can choose something close to one of the keyword ideas or a creative spin on a keyword idea.

Once on the NameCheap website https://namecheap.com, try inputting several of the keyword ideas into the domain search bar and see if they have been registered.

Namecheap will then answer whether your keyword has been registered or not.

If it has, it will offer suggestions of other domain names you could register.

If any of these suggestions sound like a domain you would like to register.

The next step is to copy the domain name suggestion and input it into Google Keyword Planner.

And see if it is a searched for term.

If it's not, but other keywords appear that are searched for terms, select these and run them through Namecheap's domain name registrar until you find a searched for keyword that is available, as a domain name.

Once you have settled on a domain name to register, you have to choose a domain name type.

There are a lot of domain name endings available now from .club, .money to .today and many more, but the traditional domain names still exist.

And the traditional domain names still are seen as top-level domain names in that they are listed first in Search Engine Results Pages.

In order they are listed are .com, .net, .org and .biz.

It is best to buy a top level domain name rather than a creative name as already stated they are listed first in the Search Engine Results Pages.

Now that you have a domain name, the next step is to purchase web hosting.

There is a large range of options available to you but it best to choose an option that is economical and offers you the most options or bang for your buck.

The first web hosting option is the Hostgator's Hatching Plan which allows you to host only one website on this plan.

Note: You can purchase web hosting from Namecheap that is reliable and economical.

Remember, you're an internet marketer interested in expanding your internet marketing work across several niches, if you are stuck just promoting one group of products, you may not survive a recession.

The Baby Plan offers unlimited websites and unlimited bandwidth.

If you are planning for a possible future it is more economical to choose a plan with a view to the future.

But with Norton Internet Security listing websites without SSL as suspect, at the time of writing, a Business Plan can be purchased at the same price.

So for peace of mind, a Business Plan may be advisable.

And you get a free VOIP phone service.

You have now registered a domain name that is optimized for the search engines and a web hosting service that is of optimal bandwidth for most CMSs (Content Management Systems) like Wordpress.

You are now free to start building your website.

6 Things You Need To Know To Get A Blog

Before you get started blogging, you need to learn about several services and tools you may choose to use.

If you choose to set up a blog or website that you own and can sell when it becomes profitable, you need to know about domain names, web hosting and Wordpress.org.

If you want to test the water and start a free blog, you could consider services such as Google Blogger, Wix or Weebly.

If you continue reading, I will discuss these services further.

1. What is a domain name?

A domain name is the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) internet address that you buy from a domain registrar and if your keyword phrase (or what you want your web address to be) is available you can then choose from various domain types.

Some of the choices include .com, .org, .net, country-specific endings, and many new domain types.

It is recommended by many people to purchase a top level domain name like .com and if you can't register a .com domain name, get a .net, and next a .org.

Domain names start at a low price but many domain registrars offer extra domains so you can dominate that domain name and you don't have to compete with others that own the same domain but a different type.

If you do decide to purchase extra domain name types it's worth remembering that when it's time to renew your domain names, the bill can be extremely high.

Once you've purchased your domain name, the next step is to purchase web hosting so you can start building your website or internet real estate as some people like to call it.

Many domain registrars offer both domain names and web hosting, and web hosting providers offer domain names.

2. What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a place where you can store your website pages.

A website at a minimum will usual have 4 pages.

The main page name index.html, aboutus.html, contactus.html and a javascript page, javascript.js.

Many people that build websites will never see these pages and most likely will use a content management system (CMS) called Wordpress, which they can install with one or two clicks, or get a web designer to install it for them.

3. What is Wordpress?

Wordpress is a CMS that requires no knowledge of web development languages and gives users the option to install templates and plugins (programs) to change the look of their website by clicking a mouse and editing text.

Web programmers that create templates and plugins have made it significantly easier to have a well designed and functional website within little time and not much effort.

Wordpress.org offers free templates but the best templates are purchased from websites like Themeforest.

Expect to pay anything from US$10-$50 for a template on Themeforest.

Plugins can be purchased from various websites and used for various uses such as setting up a structure for product sales, link cloaking, and other things.

4. Are there any free options?

There are many free options for people that are strapped for cash these include; Google's Blogger, Weebly, Wix, and others.

These providers are also CMSs but you will not be able to sell(transfer) your website to anyone else as you use your personal email to access them.

And even if you own the domain name you don't own the site.

5. Is Blogger a good place to host a blog?

Blogger is a good starting place to host a blog when learning how to become a successful blogger and affiliate marketer.

It offers a What you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) editor, analytics (which are adequate for a person learning to blog), the ability to customize the look and layout with easy editing, and the option of earning money from advertising.

6. Wix and Weebly - A drag and drop (WYSIWYG) system

Weebly and Wix both offer professional looking templates that will make most people sit up and take notice.

They also offer analytics, the ability to customize the look and layout with easy editing, and the option to add advertising.
